Archived permanent highway closures and diversions

We receive applications for roads and footpaths to be permanently closed or diverted.

Councillors are sometimes required to approve these applications in principle so that work on consultation and legal processes can go ahead.

However, in some cases the decision whether to proceed with an application is delegated to one of our senior officers. They will make the decision based on a report explaining the background, reasons and justification for the proposal.

These reports include:

  • the affected highways 
  • which act was used (Highways Act/Town and Country Planning Act)
  • when and which senior officer approved the application
