Doors
Hinged doors
- they must allow an unrestricted opening across the doorway
Sliding doors
- the interior door handle must be clearly visible and easily accessible when the door is fully open
- reflective strips must be on the inside of front and rear edges of the door
Door fittings
For rear-loading wheelchair access vehicles
- automatic door locking devices are not needed
For all other vehicle types
- passenger doors must have automatic locking devices that prevent opening when the vehicle is in motion
- when stationary, doors must be easily opened from inside and outside
- systems may stop use of interior door handles when the vehicle is stationary with the footbrake applied or when indicators are used
- interior door handles must be clearly identified to prevent confusion
