Your Hackney Carriage must be right-hand drive.
When you register, you must provide documentary evidence that your category M1 vehicle has one of the following approvals:
- EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval
- UK Low Volume Type Approval
- UK National Small Series Type Approval
- Provisional GB Type Approval
- GB Whole Vehicle Type Approval
- GB Medium Series Type Approval
- UK (NI) Small Series Type Approval
- GB Small Series Type Approval
- UK (NI) Type Approval
If your vehicle has retrofit emissions technology, it needs to be approved by the Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme (CVRAS).
Vehicles that have been written off in any category will not be licensed.
It is important to remember that all vehicles used on the road in the UK must comply with the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 and the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989.
