Sheffield's strategy to end domestic and sexual abuse and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)

'From Surviving to Safety' is Sheffield's strategy to end domestic and sexual abuse and Violence Against Women and Girls. The strategy is in place from 2024 to 2030 and outlines the local priorities in addressing domestic abuse and sexual violence.

How we developed the strategy

The strategy has been developed by our Domestic Abuse Co-ordination Team and covers behaviours ranging from harassment on the street to serious violence.

It is informed by a comprehensive local needs assessment and by extensive consultation with victims and survivors, key stakeholders, service providers and the general public. To find out more about what people told us, you can read the Strategy Consultation Summary document.

How we're planning to deliver the strategy

The strategy is aimed at everyone in Sheffield, as we all have a responsibility to help put an end to domestic abuse and sexual violence. To deliver this strategy, we will take a multi-agency approach, working alongside organisations across the city. We will also support the implementation of this strategy with a comprehensive action plan.

Needs assessment

Our needs assessments consider the needs of victims and survivors in Sheffield. They cite the growing body of national and local evidence in this area and help us to understand the scale of domestic abuse and sexual violence in Sheffield. They provide an overview of areas of good practice locally, but also where we need to improve and where the gaps in provision are. We have considered the needs in five specific areas:

  • domestic abuse
  • sexual violence
  • children and young people affected by domestic and sexual abuse
  • safe accommodation for victims and survivors of domestic abuse
  • Domestic Homicide Reviews

For the moment, if you would like to read the needs assessment, please contact dact@sheffield.gov.uk for a copy. We are looking to publish these in early 2025.

Annual report

Each year we will publish an annual impact report that will set out some of the successes and challenges encountered in Sheffield whilst working to end domestic and sexual abuse, and all forms of violence against women and girls. The report summarises the activities of the Domestic Abuse Co-Ordination Team (DACT) and our many partners. You can read the reports from the last two years below.
