The Gleadless Valley regeneration project aims to enhance housing, green spaces, facilities, and employment opportunities. Centering on residents, tenants, and businesses, the initiative seeks community-driven improvements. The Masterplan was signed off in September 2022, and the Regeneration Team became fully operational by May 2023. In August 2024, a refreshed Masterplan and delivery plan received approval from the council's Strategy & Resource Committee. Both the committee paper and the meeting video are available to view.

The Gleadless Valley Masterplan Refresh and Delivery Plan was approved by the Council’s Strategy & Resource Committee on 29th August 2024. The committee paper and the meeting video are available for public viewing. Here is a summary of the new approach:
Community and Partner Collaboration
Our focus on enhancing homes, public spaces, shops, and services, and supporting local organizations. To achieve more, we’ll partner with housing associations and developers to deliver new, affordable housing, and work with community groups to seek funding for initiatives like park improvements.
Focus on Existing Homes
In the New Year we’re inspecting the condition of existing homes, prioritising funding for those needing the most support. A dedicated team is addressing the backlog of repair requests, aiming to resolve these within the next three months. You can log required repairs online here.
Council Commitment to Gleadless Valley
The Regeneration Board has been formed. A new board, including the Council Leader, local councillors, residents, community groups, and partners, will oversee the strategy and ensure community support.
The Regeneration Team is committed to delivering on the Masterplan and enhancing community engagement.

Economic Recovery Fund: Exciting news for Newfield Green and Gaunt Shopping Centres! Both areas are set to benefit from the Economic Recovery Fund (ERF), a grant supporting improvements to local high streets. This initiative encourages residents and visitors to spend time and shop in these areas. Guided by local businesses, the plan aims to revitalise these shopping hubs by boosting local businesses and improving infrastructure. It’s a significant step toward a brighter future for the community, and we look forward to seeing these positive changes unfold.
Demolition of Paddock Hill and Castelayn: The Council received external funding to demolish Paddock Hill Care Home (Gleadless Road) and Castelayn Residential Home (Leighton Drive). These unused former care homes, called 'brownfield sites', will be replaced with affordable housing. Paddock Hill was demolished April 2024 and Castelayn is due to be demolished late July/early August 2024.The funding for demolition comes from the Brownfield Land Release Fund 2 by One Public Estate (OPE). This was not originally included in the Gleadless Valley Masterplan but provides an opportunity for more affordable homes to be built on the estate.
Spotswood Green Space: A big thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the Spotswood Green Space designs. We received 69 responses, with nearly 60% in favour of the proposed designs. Your engagement and support are crucial as we strive to create spaces that meet the community's needs and preferences. One of the main concerns raised was around anti-social behaviour. We are committed to addressing this issue and ensuring your concerns are heard. Using your feedback, we are making improvements to the designs to enhance safety and usability. Once the amended designs are complete, we will share them with you. Thank you for your continued participation in making Gleadless Valley a better place for everyone.
Hemsworth and Herdings football pitches: Exciting news for Charnock Ridgeway Women and Girls Football Club. The club has been selected to play their future matches at Herdings Park and Hemsworth Playing Fields. We are thrilled to see the opportunities that will flourish as these sites become their new home grounds. Having football right on their doorsteps will undoubtedly nurture budding talent in the community. Follow them on Facebook to stay updated on their journey.

February 2024
Paddock Hill and Castelayn demolition: Thanks to the Brownfield Land Release Fund 2, administered by One Public Estate (OPE), Paddock Hill has been successfully demolished. Contractors are scheduled to begin work on Castelayn on July 15. Before this demolition, we will encourage several bats present in the building to roost in an alternative location. Due to a lack of trees in the nearby area, we will install bat boxes on the outside of the flats at Leighton Drive. This work will occur at the end of July or beginning of August and will cause minimal short-term disruption without affecting residents in the long term. The demolition of Castelayn care home is also scheduled for the end of July or beginning of August. After demolition, debris will be cleared, and grass will be sown on the site. We are currently exploring options for affordable housing to be built on the land and will keep you updated on next steps.
November 2023 to January 2024
From November 2023 to January 2024, the Gleadless Valley Regeneration Team collaborated closely with partners throughout the area to develop a comprehensive waste management strategy. Independent Chair for Gleadless Valley Regeneration Board
Are you keen to be part of a major regeneration project in Gleadless Valley, a project that is putting the local community at the heart of shaping the future plans for the estate? Sheffield City Council is seeking an individual who cares about Gleadless Valley, is passionate about community and neighbourhood development and is motivated to drive regeneration forward over the coming years.
Following some challenges that have slowed down the delivery of the Gleadless Valley Masterplan, the Council is now keen to focus on progressing the development of a delivery plan to enable key aspects of the masterplan to be delivered.
The Council is seeking an independent Chair to lead a newly formed Gleadless Valley Regeneration Board. The Gleadless Valley Regeneration Board will bring together residents, local community organisations, delivery partners, senior council representatives and the local Member of Parliament with the purpose of advising on the overall strategy for Gleadless Valley and aligning stakeholders to deliver the vision. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in a project that will leave a legacy for future generations. If this role is of interest, we would love to hear from you.
