Sheffield City Council are seeking a non-voting member to join our Audit and Standards Committee. This Committee is a crucial part of the Council’s corporate governance structure. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to your community while gaining valuable experience in corporate governance.
We are looking for someone who has business, financial, voluntary or community sector experience of working in a medium/large organisation at a senior level or other experience which would give similar benefits. Knowledge of corporate governance arrangements and financial management experience would be advantageous.
As a member of the Committee, you will be responsible for overseeing and assessing the Council’s risk management, control, and corporate governance arrangements. You will also advise the Council on the adequacy and effectiveness of these arrangements, ensuring that they are in line with industry standards.
In addition to these responsibilities, you will also be responsible for promoting high standards of conduct by Councillors and co-opted members. You will oversee the Members’ Code of Conduct and consider complaints alleging that a Member may have breached the Code.
The appointments are for a maximum of 4 years with the terms of office ending in May 2029. You will be expected to attend approximately 5 to 9 meetings a year, as well as training events.
The position is voluntary but a co-optees’ allowance will be paid (currently £884.37 per annum), together with reimbursement for travelling and subsistence expenses.
