We provide travel training for children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEND). Travel training helps young people develop skills and confidence to travel independently.
It has been shown to have wider benefits:
- increases confidence and self-esteem
- increases independence in other areas
- being able to access more opportunities including social, education and employment
- supports preparation for adulthood
What the training covers
Our Travel Trainers work with children and young people on a one-to-one basis. They provide all the encouragement, information and support they need.
The training covers:
- road safety
- personal safety
- stranger awareness
- how to use timetables and buy tickets
- what to do when things go wrong (for example, if the bus is late or cancelled)
- how and where to ask for help
Cost
Travel training is free of charge for children and young people who are eligible for travel support.
If you have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), this can be up to 25 years old.
