Football ground street trader consent
Street trading is restricted around Sheffield’s football grounds. You need consent from us if you want to sell football memorabilia or food and drinks within an 800 metre radius of either club's ground.
How we allocate consents
Restrictions have been placed on the number of consents that can be issued at each stadium in order to avoid over-crowding, congestion and conflict between traders.
The maximum number of traders for each ground are:
- Sheffield United Football Ground 15 consents
- Sheffield Wednesday Football Ground 19 consents
If you apply when we have already allocated the maximum amount of consents then your application will go before our licensing committee who will decide if it can be granted.
Additional consents are only likely to be granted if you can demonstrate to the committee that the unit will be a minimum of 25 metres away from any other current consent holder and that the consent site applied for does not cause an obstruction, block footpaths or block exit routes from the stadium.
When you can trade
If you are granted a football consent you will be able to trade at all first team home fixtures, friendlies and internationals for:
- 4 hours before the match
- during the match
- up to 1 hour after the match
This does not include beam back or other non-footballing events. You will need to apply for a short term day consent to trade during these events.
Who can apply for a consent
You must be at least 17.
You need to make sure that any assistants you have working on your pitch are wearing badges issued by us. If not they do not have badges they will not be allowed to trade.
Costs
You will need to pay with your application. Costs are:
- £521 for a hot and cold food and drinks consent
- £211 for a memorabilia consent
Your stall needs to meet our requirements
You need to follow our street stall trading criteria in order for us to grant you consent.

- two recent and identical passport size photographs signed and dated on the reverse

What happens once you have made an application
Once we receive your application we will consult with relevant parties for around 28 days.
If there are no issues, we will request that you sign and date the conditions of your consent before we issue it. You will then be required to display the consent on your trading unit as per your conditions.
If we have any issues with your application or if there are objections, we will refer your application to our licensing committee as soon as possible. They will make a decision on your application. You and any objectors will be invited to attend.
Tacit consent will not apply
It is in the public interest that we process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from us within 28 days you should contact us.
Short term consents
If you want a street trading consent for a short period of time you can apply for a short term consent for either a day, week, or month. You can apply for this using the standard application form and indicating that you are applying for short term consent.
When you apply, you must ensure that you submit all appropriate documentation and pay the relevant fee. You should include your payment reference number on your application form.
