Convert civil partnership to a marriage
You will be able to convert your civil partnership if you have:
- registered a civil partnership in England and Wales before 29 March 2014
- registered a civil partnership overseas in a consulate or armed forces base (where the civil partnership was registered according to the laws of England and Wales)
If you wish to convert your civil partnership to a marriage there is a £45 conversion fee.
The conversion
You must both attend at the Register Office together and you’ll need to bring proof of identity and your civil partnership registration.
The conversion will happen when you sign a declaration that your civil partnership has not been dissolved and that you both want to convert it to marriage. The conversion will be registered and a certificate of conversion issued.
Conversion ceremony
There is no ceremony attached to the conversion and you don’t go through a marriage ceremony. If you would like to have a ceremony after the conversion please discuss the options when booking your appointment.
Ceremony fees
At the Town Hall ceremony fees Monday to Saturday in the Ceremony Rooms are £150 including VAT.
Other venues
- Monday to Saturday, £200 including VAT
- Sunday and Bank Holidays, £240 including VAT
