Sheffield Youth Cabinet and UK Youth Parliament
The Sheffield Youth Cabinet enables young people to have a say on issues that matter to them and to influence decision making at a local, regional and national level. Sheffield Youth Cabinet members represent the voice, views and opinions of their peers in their local areas.
The Sheffield Youth Cabinet is made up of elected members from the Sheffield Youth Council and Sheffield UK Youth Parliament. The group meet monthly to drive forward and coordinate their campaigns and work in campaign action groups. Their work is voluntary, and they are all passionate about making Sheffield and the UK a better and fairer place for young people.
Sheffield Youth Council
The Sheffield Youth Council is made up of 12 elected Youth Councillors aged 11 to 18 – four per area to represent North, East and West Sheffield. There are also special interest seats for young people up to the age of 25 to ensure voices of marginalised groups are heard.
Sheffield UK Youth Parliament
The Sheffield UK Youth Parliament is responsible for co-ordination of the Make Your Mark Ballot in Sheffield. Make Your Mark is the largest young people’s consultation in the UK run by the British Youth Council. Members drive forward the Make Your Mark campaigns in the city, meeting regularly as an action group. As part of this, once a year they debate key issues for young people at the House of Commons.
Sheffield has three elected members of UK Youth Parliament – one each for North, East and West Sheffield and three elected Deputy Members of UK Youth Parliament – one each for North, East and West Sheffield. These are young people aged 11 to 17 who are elected once every two years to represent their peers at a local, regional and national level.
