Driving standards test

Learn how to complete your driving standards test.

This is your chance to show us that your driving skills and road safety are above average.

About the test

You must pass a driving standards test carried out by a driving standards examiner at our Transport Department. The test will include any 3 of the following:

  • emergency stop
  • left-hand reverse
  • right-hand reverse
  • turn in the road
  • reverse parking

You will also be tested on the Highway Code. To help with this, we recommend that you study the Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency’s (DVSA) Official Guide to Driving.

To pass the test, you will need to show us that your driving skills are of a high standard. If you fail, we will ask you to take more lessons with a qualified instructor. You must do this before you book another driving standards test.
