Pound's Park is an award winning green public space located in the heart of the city centre. The park includes spaces for play, relaxation and socialising.
Pound's Park is next to the Kangaroo Works building and close to the Cambridge Street Collective food hall. It sits on the junction of Wellington Street and Rockingham Street.
Visiting Pound's Park
There are three main entrances to the park. One from Carver Street, another from Rockingham Street and the final one on the junction of Wellington Street and Rockingham Street.
You can get there by public transport, bicycle, car or on foot.
Public transport
The nearest tram stop is on West Street, a 5 minute walk away. There is a bus stop outside the Rockingham Street entrance.
Admission and opening times
There is no admission charge. The park's official opening times are 8am to 5pm. The park is not gated.
Park design
Pound's Park has an ambitious design. It reimagines the idea of a city park. This space is for play, quiet thinking, and socialising. And it's all in a lush green place. The park has creative planting and inventive soft landscaping. It also aligns with the city’s environmental ambitions.
History of the park
The park was created as part of the wider Heart of the City project to transform Sheffield’s city centre.
The park gets its name from the first Chief Fire Officer, John Charles Pound.
The site was previously used by the South Yorkshire Fire Service as their central headquarters.
Features and facilities
Playground
The park has a children's playground for families to enjoy. The play equipment is fully inclusive and not prescriptive.
The playground includes:
- two large pyramid towers - with the tallest standing at 11 metres
- stainless steel slides
- climbing structures
- playhouses
- seesaw
- wheelchair accessible play equipment
- large sand pit area
- large climbing boulder
- water play that runs through the playground with pumps, sprays, water wheels and dams
- musical chime floor play area
