Sheffield’s New Theatre Trust was established in 1967 and just four years later the Crucible Theatre opened its doors for the first time. The design, both the exterior and the interior, with its thrust stage, soon made the Crucible one of Sheffield’s icons.
It has hosted the World Snooker Championships since 1977. In 2001 it won the Theatre of the Year award, and has been named Regional Theatre of the Year on a number of occasions.
