Guidance on making a job application
We welcome your interest in applying for a job with us. Find out everything you need to know about our recruitment process and your candidate journey.
If you are disabled and require a reasonable adjustment at any stage in the recruitment process, please let us know about this by contacting the recruiting manager for the vacancy, as listed on the job advert or by emailing the recruitment and talent team.
We know applying for jobs can be time consuming, so we tried to made our application process simple and straightward. Within our vacancies portal, you can also save a search for jobs that are of interest to you.
Online applications
We accept online applications unless otherwise stated in the advert. This is to ensure that we capture the same information from candidates to help ensure a fair and consistent shortlisting process. After the vacancy closing date, we provide the recruiting manager with your anonymised application with your personal details and equal opportunities removed.
If you do not have access to the internet, please do go to your local library, job centre or even ask friends or family to provide you with a connection to our site.
If you are applying for the first time and do not currently work for the Council, you will need to register with us. If you are an existing employee of the Council, you should apply using MyHR, as your personal details will be already saved onto your application.
Your application
Preparation is key. Before you start, gather all the information that you'll need, including details of your academic achievements, employment history and contact information for your referees.
Make sure you read the instructions carefully to ensure that you complete the correct sections of the form. You must submit your application before midnight on the closing date.
Some tips for your application:
- use the job description and person specification as a guide to provide examples of your specific skills and qualities in the supporting statement section
- if the advert refers you to any other websites with further information about the role, it is important to read this before submitting your application
- check your registered email address (including your junk/spam folders) regularly as this is how we keep in touch with you about your application
