Offering help as a business
We know that many businesses are struggling with rising costs but there are others who feel able to support the communities they are part of.
Community support
If you are a business who can help, you may want to look at our general information on donating money, food and other items and volunteering for local charities on our Cost of living page.
Sheffield Business Together
Sheffield Business Together is a business-led cross sector collaboration, which brings together businesses and charities to address some of the key challenges facing our city. The team work closely with Voluntary Action Sheffield and us to identify opportunities for businesses to support their community. You can contact them at info@sheffieldbusinesstogether.org.uk.
For the latest information on opportunities to get involved, you can join their mailing list, via 'Contact us' on the Sheffield Business Together website or check their latest news.
Business in the Community
Business in the Community are partners of Sheffield Business Together and work with businesses to continually grow their responsible business practices. They have developed guidance on the different ways that organisations can help to respond to the cost-of-living crisis which is available on their website.
Supporting your employees
One of the most tangible and direct ways any organisation can help alleviate the cost-of-living crisis is to provide support to their own employees. Below are some ideas that you may wish to consider as part of this:
- paying the living wage
- set up a cost-of-living task force to understand the needs of your employees
- consider a one-off cost of living payment
- signpost employees to the help available across the city
- establish an emergency loan service for staff
- champion equality and assess who is being impacted
- run support and wellbeing sessions
- encourage employees to receive help by breaking down perceptions of shame and stigma
- provide free food or a breakfast
- pay untaken leave
