The Register Office is the main location for managing the administration of births, deaths and marriages.
We are only open to customers who have pre-booked appointments and we are unable to accept walk-in appointments.
If you are visiting the Register Office in person, our reception team can book an appointment for you, but please be aware you may have to wait up to 30 minutes for this to be processed.

Services we offer
Reception enquiries
Our reception staff can help with enquiries relating to:
- births and birth re-registrations
- deaths
- marriages
- Certificates of non-Impediment (CoNI)
- proof of life
- citizenships
- corrections for certificates
Ordering birth, death and marriage certificates
We can only produce certificates for the Sheffield district. Any certificates for births, deaths and marriages taking place outside of Sheffield must be ordered from the relevant district.
Currently we can only take cash payments over the counter for certificates, but we are hoping to resolve this issue soon.
Ceremonies
All ceremonies are conducted in our ceremony rooms accessed through the front entrance to the Town Hall. Our ceremonies include citizenships, marriages, civil partnerships, naming ceremonies and renewal of vows.
What we don't deal with
The Register Office cannot support enquiries about the following:

How to find us
You can access the Register Office from its entrance on Norfolk Street at the back of the Town Hall, opposite St Paul's Hotel.
If you are walking from the direction of Surrey Street, the entrance is the second doorway on the right-hand side. If you are walking from the Peace Gardens, you can enter from the first doorway on the left.
