Renewing a taxi driver licence

Renew your taxi driver licence with our online form.

How to renew

We will usually contact you by email when your licence needs to be renewed, but it's your responsibility to renew your licence on time. You can renew your badge 2 months leading up to the date that it ends.

Follow these steps to find out what you need to do to renew your licence. You can then use our online form to complete your renewal.

  1. DVLA driving licence

You will need to tell us your DVLA driving licence number, so that we can check that you are legally allowed to drive a taxi.

  2. Taxi driver disclosure and barring checks

You will need to supply us with your DBS certificate number so that we can check your DBS record.

  3. Taxi driver criminal and motoring convictions

Learn about criminal, motoring and overseas convictions and find out what happens to your application if you have committed an offence.

  4. Tax check code

You will need to provide us with your 9-character tax check code to show that you are registered with HMRC.

  5. Taxi driver medical assessments

Depending on your age and any medical conditions, you may need to take a medical assessment when you renew.

  6. Right to work in the UK for taxi drivers

If you are under immigration controls, then we will only renew a taxi driver licence for the period that you are working in the UK. In this case, we may need to see you in person to make these checks.

  7. Renew a taxi driver licence

Once you have all the information, you can renew your taxi driver licence online.
