Use this form to renew your private hire operator licence.
About this licence
We will usually contact you by email when your operator’s licence needs to be renewed. This will be about 2 months before it is due to expire.
It is your responsibility to ensure you renew on time. Please email taxilicensing@sheffield.gov.uk or telephone 0114 273 4264 if you haven’t received your reminder.
To continue to work as a private hire operator, you should make your application within the month of its expiry date. You cannot continue to operate until your licence has been assessed and renewed.
Cost
The fee to renew your taxi operator licence depends how long your licence is for and how many vehicles you’re operating.

Information you will need
You will need to provide the following information when you renew your licence:
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Basic Disclosure (if not already licensed) for all partners and directors associated with the company or if already licensed as a driver with us, your DBS certificate number
- public liability insurance (if required)
- information to confirm registration with the Information Commissioner’s Office
- 9-character tax code
If you do not have a tax code, then you will need to register with the UK Government.
GOV.UK: complete a tax check for a taxi, private hire or scrap metal licence.
Once we receive your application, we may find that we need to see other documents. We will contact you if this is the case.
We will not process your application until all information has been provided to us.
DBS online update service
If you have signed up to the up to the DBS online update service, you may need to provide us with the consent to check your information. We will contact you if this is the case.
