We want to make sure everyone has access to the right transport services as set out in the Equality Act 2010.
We will investigate any complaints that we receive about a lack of support for passengers with a wheelchair or assistance dog. We will take appropriate enforcement measures if we feel they are needed.
Wheelchair accessible vehicle list
We keep a list of all licensed wheelchair accessible vehicles (section 167 list). All hackney carriage vehicles licensed with Sheffield City Council are wheelchair accessible.
Your rights as a passenger
If a taxi driver doesn't have a medical exemption from us, they may be committing an offence if they don't provide you with the right help and support.

Assistance
Drivers must help you get in and out of the vehicle comfortably and safely. This includes securing your wheelchair and any luggage or belongings that you have.
Fair treatment
You should not be charged extra for using a wheelchair. This includes only starting a meter once the journey starts, after the driver has helped you into the vehicle and secured your belongings.
About assistance dogs
Hackney and private hire drivers must carry assistance dogs in licensed vehicles. This applies even if their vehicle is not wheelchair accessible.
