You need to contact us with your advertising proposal before you add it to your vehicle. We will need to check that the advertisement is appropriate and is not:
- promoting either directly or indirectly, smoking (including tobacco and/or vaping), alcohol, and gambling
- of a sexual, religious or political nature
- likely to cause offence to members of the public

Contract for the advertisement requirements
You need to think about the following when applying for advertising consent:
- advertisements must be submitted by the owner of the vehicle
- the contract for advertisement must state the vehicle details and when the contract will end
- the contract must contain a condition stating that the advertisement must be removed at the end of the contract term
Where you can advertise
You can advertise on your vehicle in the following ways:
- on the rear window (this must use contra vision or similar technology)
- as half or full livery (it must not distract from the vehicle signage)
- on a digital screen
- as an illuminated exterior media
If a full livery advertisement has been applied to your vehicle, the DVLA V5C logbook must be updated, stating that the colour is ‘full livery’.
Advertisements must not cover notices, signs or plates.

Full livery advertisement
The fee to apply for a full livery advertisement on your vehicle is £55.
