There are 3 stages that your vehicle licence application will go through:

Test appointments

Once you have made an application for a Hackney Carriage Licence, your vehicle will be issued with a date to attend the compliance test.

When you apply for your licence, you will need to prove to us that you are fit and proper person to own a licensed taxi by giving us information about your DBS.  

  1. Hackney carriage disclosure and barring checks

    If you do not currently hold a driver licence with us, you will need to tell us whether you have any criminal convictions. To do this, you will need to send us a basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate.

  2. Right to work in the UK for hackney carriage vehicles

    To licence your hackney carriage vehicle, you must prove to us that you are legally allowed to work in the UK.

  3. Hackney carriage vehicle insurance

    You will need to have insurance in place to use your hackney carriage as a taxi.
