With the transformation of the ever-popular Chapel Walk area of Sheffield city centre moving at pace, now is your chance to get involved with grant funding being made available for independent business owners to have their very own piece of this busy, historic thoroughfare.
Chapel Walk connects what will be a stunning social and retail hub on Fargate with Sheffield’s theatre quarter and offers shoppers, theatre goers and visitors to the city the perfect location to discover unique boutique shops, destinations for lunch, or to grab a bite to eat.
As part of the third round of ReNew funding, Sheffield City Council is offering grants of £5,000 to £10,000 to enable new occupiers to fit out vacant units on Chapel Walk.
In previous rounds, the ReNew Funding Grant Scheme has paid out more than £183,000 to starter businesses across Chapel Walk, Fargate and Orchard Square allowing them to move into their own premises and begin trading.
Sheffield has a fantastic history of being a place where small businesses can thrive, and we want that to continue along Chapel Walk. I remember going down Chapel Walk when I was younger visiting the city and seeing all the brilliant shops offering a wide range of items for sale and thousands of others will have similar fond memories
The work the Church Burgess has done on the shop fronts and interiors is stunning, echoing back to the area’s past, and really increases the appeal of the units.
Cllr Ben Miskell, Chair of the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee at Sheffield City Council
The Sheffield Church Burgesses Trust is grateful to have received funding from the UK government as a contribution to putting in place new shopfronts in a comprehensive scheme of modernisation and refurbishment to the Trust’s properties that make up part of Chapel Walk, the full cost of which is being borne by the Trust.
These works are greatly improving this historically important parade, creating premises for small businesses looking to set up new ventures in the city centre. We hope that this will help to regenerate the area and the rental income will assist to support the Trust’s grant making in Sheffield.
Mr David Booker, The Capital Burgess (chair of trustees).
Sheffield is a fantastic place, it’s a city with so many incredible things to offer including high quality residential, retail, restaurants, cafes and entertainment spaces for people to enjoy at their leisure. The ReNew Sheffield Grant Scheme will support forward-thinking business owners who want to get involved in reshaping our wonderful city centre, alongside our much-loved established businesses, and restore this unique and characterful parade to its former glory.
Cllr Miskell
Following significant restoration works to a number of properties on Chapel Walk and with Boots Opticians opening in the former Paperchase store, it certainly looks to be the right time to consider Chapel Walk as a location to open a new business or expand an existing business.
Paul Lancaster, property agent for vacant units 30 and 46 Chapel Walk
Full details of the scheme and eligibility criteria are available on the Sheffield City Council website.
