Kicking off this weekend, the Sheffield Lunar Chinese New Year Festival includes a free outdoor event in Sheffield City Centre (1 and 2 Feb), a Meadowhall performance (31 Jan), and a traditional Gala show at The Octagon (10 Feb).
This event has significant local support including The Sheffield BID, and Sheffield City Council, and will feature Regional Mayor Oliver Coppard participating in an 'eye dotting' ceremony alongside The Lord Mayor of Sheffield and the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire.
The free elements are a great opportunity for families and local residents to enjoy the full Lunar New Year experience including performances, music, food and craft.
"Following the success of last year’s Lunar New Year festival, I am delighted that this event is returning for 2025. As a new flagship event in the city’s cultural calendar, the festival presents a brilliant opportunity for the many diverse communities of Sheffield to come together.
“Events like this are not only vital to celebrate the city’s vibrancy and diverse cultural offer, but they also bring people into our city centre, into our local businesses and present local talent with opportunities to shine – this all benefits Sheffield and its people.”
Councillor Martin Smith, Chair of the Economic Development and Skills Committee
